The Goal
A Charlie Cart is a compact, mobile kitchen on wheels equipped with a sink, stove, oven, and cooking tools, designed for classrooms, libraries, and community spaces. It allows educators to teach hands-on cooking, nutrition, and food systems lessons anywhere, making healthy food education accessible and engaging.
- By teaching children and families to cook with fresh, seasonal produce, the program promotes local farms and markets.
- Lessons highlight portioning, meal planning, and creative uses of leftovers, which help reduce household food waste.
- The cart shows that cooking doesn’t require single-use packaging or disposable utensils.
- Plant-forward and scratch cooking lessons promote diets with smaller environmental footprints.
- By instilling cooking and nutrition skills early, the Charlie Cart helps participants adopt habits that are healthier and more sustainable.
