Library Page

The library is seeking a page to work morning hours. A library page sorts and shelves books, magazines, newspapers, audiovisual and other collection items to assist in the day-to-day operation of the library. This position begins 1-2 hours prior to the library opening with four-hour shifts, four days a week for a total of 16 hours. The day begins at 8AM at the latest, earlier if desired. An occasional Saturday is also required.

A library page sorts and shelves books, magazines, newspapers, audiovisual, and other collection items to assist in the day-to-day operation of the library.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintains order in the collection;
Prints hold notifications and pulls materials;
Shelves books, periodicals, and audiovisual materials;
Scans shelves to assure items are in classification order;
Shifts books and audiovisual material as needed to organize shelf space and distribute materials in shelf space;
Faces books and audiovisual materials on shelf;
Empties the book drop;
Organizes newspaper and magazine racks;
Recycles newspapers;
Re-scans barcodes of returned materials to assure material has been checked in;
Identifies materials in need of cleaning, repair, or withdrawal and transfers them to appropriate staff;
Maintains physical appearance of the library by picking up library materials, left on counters, tables, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.

ACCOUNTABILITY:
The page is supervised by the circulation manager. Duties initially are performed in accordance with specific instructions with close supervision, and, as skills and knowledge increase, are self-directed and under moderate supervision. Direction may also be given by other staff members, including the assistant director or the librarian-in-charge. The library director is responsible for hiring and firing.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous library or clerical experience and knowledge of library organization is helpful.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is also regularly required to stand; walk; sit; grasp, grip, and reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel or crouch. Employee must lift and/or otherwise move objects of up to 50lbs and transport loaded book carts.

Specific vision abilities required by job include close vision, color vision and ability to focus.

Employee is expected to use a keyboard, mouse, computer monitor and hand scanner in performance of job.

Focused attention to detail in busy environment is essential. Dexterity and good hand-eye coordination is necessary to perform assigned tasks.

WORK SCHEDULE:
The page works a combination of weekday and weekend hours as needed by the employer. Flexibility in scheduling is desired as additional hours are occasionally requested to cover vacation or sick time.

WAGE AND BENEFITS:
The starting wage is $15.25 per hour.
