“The whole of life is just like watching a film. Only it’s as though you always get in ten minutes after the big picture has started, and no-one will tell you the plot, so you have to work it out all yourself from the clues.”
― Terry Pratchett, Moving Pictures
This quote from one of my very favorite authors seems like an appropriate beginning. Each day at a library involves a bit of a surprise. Who will walk through the door, what topics will come up? In this job, what new technologies will I learn, who will I meet, how can I serve this community? And for the people that I meet, how can I make the library more welcoming, make it into the Third Place-- not work, not home, but the other place you spend your time-- and together, how do we do real, meaningful, community building?
As far as getting to know me is concerned, you can learn about me from my favorite books. I like epic tales that wrap around you and take over for a bit, like Kristin Lavransdatter by Sigrid Undset. I like “weird” books that make me say “What? What?!”, but I also love cozy mysteries, romance novels, sci-fi, and the type of books that can be bought in airports.
I respond faster to emails than I do to phone calls, so plan accordingly, but please be in touch if you have ideas for programs you'd like to see or offer!
