This is my final Director’s message. I will turn over the quill and many other responsibilities with my retirement in a few weeks. I have been so fortunate to be part of a caring, capable team. I have worked with over 170 staff members, served with hundreds of volunteer Board members, and had additional support from hundreds of volunteers and Friends of the Library.
After 46 years, I’m enjoying the opportunity to reflect on how the library has changed through this time. Technology has reframed how we publish, organize, and access information. The role of a traditional public library has evolved from a static collection to a public space essential to the social fabric of our community. The growth of the community has provided new influences, expectations, and opportunities for programs. And a modern, flexible facility has, until recently with a need for expansion, enabled us to respond to the community’s needs.
I have been privileged to witness lives literally transformed through access to our library, its services, and staff. Core values of respect, trust, civility, and kindness have been constant influences. I know this foundation will continue to guide the stewards of this community treasure into the future.
With thanks for the opportunity,
Nancy E. Crowell
Library Director
