You know you’ve read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend. ~Paul Sweeney

Literacy has been part of my world since I was born. There are books on my bookshelf that my parents read to me before I could talk. I have also kept treasured books that I wrote with their assistance. My parents were also keen on conversation and patiently answered thousands of questions asked by my two siblings and myself. We traveled in the USA and Canada, which added to our experiences and posed even more questions. Our literacy background was rich.

Literacy continued to be at the top my list as an adult when I earned an undergraduate degree in Child Development and a graduate degree in Education. During my teaching years I served in various grade levels of elementary school as well as teaching Reading Recovery. This led to work as a literacy specialist. After leaving the education field I was able to fulfill a long-held dream to work in a library. My library experience includes volunteering, a school librarian, summer season librarian, and working at Scarborough Public Library for nine-plus years.
