We are very pleased to welcome Timothy Burris back to Scarborough for an evening of early music staged in the center of the Library. The French lute tradition of the 17th century was remarkable for the quality of the music and the honor accorded the leading lutenists of the day. But the lute tradition was also noteworthy for the influence it had on the broader music culture of the time–particularly keyboardists. Burris will present a sampling of the lute and theorbo repertoire of the period, along with a discussion of the effect of the French language on the music of the period. This event is free to attend and open to the public. Seating is limited.
